Clough Williams-Ellis’ intensely personal vision transformed the overgrown landscape around Aber Iâ, brought back to appreciation the exotic planting of the Gwyllt by Caton Haigh and created a village and landscape of Mediterranean flavour, which nonetheless takes full advantage of its Welsh coastal setting. The estate has stayed true to Clough Williams-Ellis’ vision, and is today held by the Second Portmeirion Foudation, a charitable trust. Its importance is recognised by its status as a grade II* garden in the Cadw/ICOMOS Register of Landscapes, Parks and Gardens of Special Historic Interest in Wales, a conservation area and remarkable assemblage of twentieth century listed buildings.
