Business Blooms in Japan!
Record participation at Japan’s ‘International Flower Expo Tokyo’ – 619 exhibitors and 24,016 trade visitors at IFEX 2006- November 13, 2006

The 3rd International Flower Expo Tokyo (IFEX 2006) held from October 19 to 21, 2006, at Makuhari Messe, Japan, was a huge success with a record 619 exhibitors and 24,016 visitors from all around the world vigorously conducting business on-site.

The success of this year’s show confirms that IFEX is now recognized throughout the industry as the door to the enormous Japanese market and also to a network of other major international markets, particularly the high growth markets in Asia.

Firmly established as a major centre for international trade
Since opening in 2004, IFEX has gone from strength to strength in establishing itself as one of the industry’s most business-generating international trade venues. Mr.Liu Cheng-Nan, Secretary General of the Taiwan Horticulture Export Association says, “We met about 1000 buyers on our second day alone and most of them were importers and exporters. We estimate that we can achieve at least revenue of US$500,000 from our customers through this show. I have exhibited at IFEX since the first year and I am really impressed with its amazing growth and improvement in these three years. It is a very well organised and successful trade fair!”

Large expansion in the size of the show contributed to the strong growth in on-site sales
The positive business results achieved at IFEX have ensured the show has grown in size each year. In the space of only one year, from IFEX 2005 to IFEX 2006, exhibitor numbers increased from 462 to 619, visitor numbers increased from 22,504 to 24,016, the number of exhibiting countries rose from 24 to 29, the number of Japanese local growers groups increased from 3 to 13 prefectures and the Garden Zone tripled in size. Also, the newly launched Bridal Zone attracted new types of

buyers from other industries such as wedding planners and hotels. This increase in participation and overall scale is fueling strong growth in on-site sales. “Excellent quality of visitors!” says Mr. Keith Turbett, of SCHEURICH (Germany), “We have witnessed a 100% increase in sales compared to IFEX last year! Since we expanded our booth size, we were able to show more product varieties and created new merchandising ideas that we offered to retailers as solutions. As a result, many of our target clients – home centres and garden centres – came to our booth.” First time exhibitor, Mr. Fernando Martinez, of Florana Farms (Ecuador), was also satisfied with the results. “IFEX was really successful. On the first day we had a lot of new enquiries and on the second day they came back to place actual orders in significant quantities! Now we have to move very quickly and supply the quantities as we have had a lot of orders.”

In its 3rd year, IFEX has firmly established itself as Asia’s leading trade fair for the flower & garden industry and it is certain that IFEX is the entrance way to the enormous Japanese flower and garden market for international exhibitors.

The Launch of Gardex

In Japan, demand for new and innovatively designed garden and exterior products is extremely high. The annual gross sales for gardening products stand at 373 billion yen (approx. Euro 2.6 billion/ USD 3.2 billion). Including garden exterior products, the whole market is worth more than 1 trillion yen (approx. Euro 6.8 billion/ USD 8.6 billion). Demand is growing rapidly in other Asian countries, too. Given this market size, there has been a strong request from both exhibitors and visitors at IFEX for a garden oriented trade fair. To meet this demand, Reed Exhibitions Japan will launch 1st International Garden & Exterior Expo Tokyo, (GARDEX), in 2007, as a new business platform for the garden industry. Every type of product related to the garden and exterior, such as pots, potted plants,

manure & fertiliser, garden care products, garden furniture, exterior decor, etc will be on display here. This new trade venue will attract landscapers, general constructers, garden professionals and other new categories of buyers, in addition to the home centers, garden centers and florists who already visit IFEX.

Already, some 100 companies have applied for space at GARDEX . The capacity of GARDEX is limited.
Once all the space has been filled, no further applications can be accepted. Show Management advises interested companies to inquire as soon as possible.
