Christian Aid’s Ultimate Green Garden at Grand Designs Live
Description
Sustainability is the central theme for Grand Designs Live 2007 and the Green Garden is one of the event’s highlights. Located in the GRANDGardens section, the Green Garden will showcase the latest in eco garden design and planting ideas, with innovative and unusual inspiration from Christian Aid’s projects overseas as well as the world famous Biome conservatories of The Eden Project.
The garden has been designed in four sections and lies under the branches of a giant sculptural tree. It will appeal to every type of gardener – either the fledgling novice or green-fingered expert, those with a solo window box or a 12-acre estate.
The four garden areas will focus on Energy and Resources; Structures and Outside Rooms; Raised Planters; and Vertical and Tiered Planting.
With every surface, pathway and component of the feature made from recycled materials, it is the perfect eco-friendly way for visitors to admire the latest renewable energy devises, explore easy organic edible gardens, take a walk on the recycled floorings and even learn how to create a living wall.
As well as a Green Garden, there is a Green Theatre, which is inspired by The Eden Project’s Biomes. This theatre allows visitors to hear thought provoking performances and ‘green’ stories. It is a place to relax from the hustle and bustle and to discover how to make our future brighter and greener.
With this year’s event focusing heavily on how to be greener and cleaner, more eco-friendly and living in the most sustainable way possible, the GRANDGardens section is a must-see. Hundreds of exhibitors will showcase products and give advice on how to make the outside of the house as green as the inside – something that is often forgotten in the quest to make properties ‘green’.
The Christian Aid Green Garden carries a serious message for visitors. All features within the garden reflect and tell the story of how ‘green’ living and renewable energy is being used by Christian Aid projects around the world to help communities prepare for and adapt to the devastating effects of a changing climate. Visitors will be given a unique chance to find out about global climate change and see how they can make a difference.
Christian Aid will also be asking visitors to the show to support their ‘Climate Changed’ campaign which highlights how the developing world is already in the front line, as natural disasters increase and climate change takes hold. The campaign calls on the UK public to cut their CO2 emissions and donate to the charity’s work.
Another reason to make sure visitors explore Christian Aid’s Green Garden is the possibility of winning family tickets to The Eden Project.
GRANDGardens is full of products, services, ideas and information for outdoor living, from full redesign, to timber decking and planting schemes. Visitors will be able to get everything they need to create their own ultimate green space.
Tickets are priced at £14 in advance or £18 on the door (children aged 15 and under enter free when accompanied by an adult).
