About Us:

thegaliumgarden5aboutus.jpg

Samantha Joyce BA (Hons) launched The Galium Garden in the spring of 2005, relocating to Monmouthshire after many years of working alongside her business partner, the tv gardener, Joe Swift, at their Islington design practise, The Plant Room.

Having studied landscaping at Capel Manor, Sam went on to gain a first class honours degree in garden design at Middlesex University. She was involved in the design and construction of gold winning gardens at the Chelsea and Hampton Court flower shows. In 2003 Sam designed six of the eight gardens featured in the Alan Titchmarsh series “How to be a gardener”. She also co-designed the Hampshire garden featured in the BBC 2 programme “The gardener’s year” presented by Alan Titchmarsh.

Our Services

Initial site visit and consultation

After your initial contact with us we will arrange a site visit to discuss your garden and introduce the way we work. At this meeting we will discuss all the issues, your tastes and requirements, to the extent of formulating a brief.

At this stage we will be able to provide you with a quotation for the first stage of the design work. There will be an initial charge to be refunded against any design work carried out.

Site Survey

Before any design work is undertaken we will carry out an accurate survey of the existing garden. Larger or more complex sites may require a land surveyor. The survey will show the house, boundaries, existing features and levels required for the subsequent preparation of the garden design.

Outline Plan

The outline plan together with any supporting visuals – sketch perspective drawings and/or sections – will show you how the final garden will look. This allows us to present our ideas and talk through any changes you may wish to make.

Layout plan and construction drawings

The layout plan incorporates any amendments agreed with you and is the plan from which a landscape contractor will be able to put together a quotation and build from. Construction drawings of specific features may be required and will accompany the layout plan.

Planting plan and schedule

The planting plan shows the location of all the new and existing plants in the design. An accompanying schedule lists the plant names, sizes and quantities, and is used for costing, ordering and setting out the plants. We can also prepare easy to understand maintenance guidelines for your new garden.

Mail order design service

No matter where you live in the world, you can still have your garden designed by thegaliumgarden. We are able to offer a bespoke garden service by mail order or e-mail.

For this service you will be required to carry out your own site survey but we will be on hand by e-mail and telephone giving you helpful hints all the way.

Once we have received you garden measurements and photos, and we have discussed your requirements and budget, you will receive a design quotation for the entire project.

For your survey we require the following:
• Metric measurements of your garden
• The gardens aspect (north, south, etc.)
• Location of existing plants, trees or buildings that you wish to retain
• Panoramic photos of your garden in each direction
• Any other requirements

We will run through a checklist of questions with you to make sure everything is included.

Once we send you the completed plan we will be able to keep in contact with your landscapers/builders should the need arise.
