Many of these ancient pithoi have been excavated from archaeological sites throughout Europe and in Egypt, a testament to their durability. Anthi Pots are fired to over 1100 degrees Celsius in brick-lined kilns fuelled by dried olive stones and grape seeds, natural and renewable bi-products of Cretan Agriculture. It is this method of firing that gives the pots the beautiful colour variations, which are not seen in products fired using modern gas or electric kilns.
