Find your nearest garden centres by searching for garden centres by city or town, right here on The Gardening Website, where we have more than 4,000 listed. Maybe you want a particular chain of garden centres – Notcutts or Wyevale – you can find one in your town. Or you’re at work and need to find out where there’s a garden centre nearby that you can pop into at lunchtime. As well as stocking all kinds of garden essentials, from tools and tubs to patio containers and propagators, they’re a great place to stop off if you fancy a bite to eat – most have coffee shops, even restaurants, often offering homemade cakes and homecooked lunches.

The Squire’s Group of Garden Centres is a family owned business which was founded in the 1930s. Today, we operate 11 garden centres in West London, Surrey, Berkshire and Sussex. We also grow roses, herbaceous perennials and bedding plants on our own nurseries
Squire’s is committed to offering a wide range of quality
plants and garden
products together with an extensive selection of garden
furniture, houseplants and
gifts. We have qualified and experienced horticultural staff on hand to help with plant related questions. All our centres, with the exception of our smallest at Chertsey, have coffee shops or restaurants on site serving a wide variety of refreshments.
Squire’s regularly exhibit at the Royal Horticultural Society Chelsea and Hampton Court Palace Flower Shows with a good track record of gold, silver gilt and silver medals to our name. We also host a number of shows at our own centres including the annual South of England Show of
the Royal National Rose Society.
Over seventy years ago, David Squire, known as DJ, Head Groundsman and gardener at the Police Orphanage in Twickenham was made redundant. With a young family to support he set up his own business, and that business has grown into a thriving, family-owned garden centre group which now comprises 11
garden centres, and rose, herbaceous and bedding plant nurseries.
Today, DJ’s son Colin is Chairman of the company, and continuing the family tradition Sarah, Colin’s daughter is HR & Marketing Director.
When the company was founded in 1935 our main activities were landscaping small domestic gardens and the production of cut flowers and bedding
plants from nurseries in Sunbury. During the 1939/45 war all landscape activities ceased and
the nurseries were turned over to vegetable production. For a short period we built a number of air-raid shelters, Anderson shelters, in the grounds of houses in the Twickenham and Sunbury areas. At the end of the war we returned to our chief activities of nursery stock growing and landscape gardening. During the 1960’s people became ever more interested in gardening for themselves rather than employing a gardener.
In response to this we opened our first garden centre in Sixth Cross Road, Twickenham, in 1964. Over the years horticultural retailing has become the most important part of our business and we now also have
garden centres at Shepperton, Badshot Lea, Hersham, Chertsey, Woking, Windsor, West Horsley, Crawley, Reigate and Long Ditton.
Plant growing is still an important part of our business and Squire’s Rose Nurseries at Shepperton have built up a very fine reputation, winning many medals in recent years at Hampton Court and Chelsea Flower shows. We also run glasshouse nurseries for the production of bedding
plants and
perennials.
Seventy years on, and with many changes in the direction and nature of the business, we still hold the same core values. To provide the local communities in which we operate with superb quality
plants and gardening
products as well as attractive ranges of garden
furniture, BBQs and
gifts, and a truly enjoyable garden centre experience.
