The RHS Spring Flower Show, Cardiff wheels into action

Sheep, cactus gardens or a fairy paradise…the RHS invites Welsh schoolchildren to let their imagination run riot with the RHS Spring Flower Show, Cardiff wheelbarrow competition.

The RHS is calling on schoolchildren in Cardiff and Caerphilly to discover the magic of gardening by inviting them to take part in the show’s Wheelbarrow competition. The entries will take centre stage at the show and visitors will be able to vote for their favourite design.

The inaugural wheelbarrow competition in 2007 was such a success with children and visitors alike that is has now been extended, with schoolchildren in Caerphilly as well as Cardiff also being invited to participate. Over 30 Cardiff schools have already signed up to take part.

The wheelbarrow competition is just one way that the RHS is encouraging school children to get involved with gardening. The RHS recently launched the RHS Campaign for School Gardening with a call to action to all UK primary schools to use gardening to teach the National Curriculum. The campaign aims to have 4000 schools gardening, with RHS help, by the end of 2008. Visit (C4SG link) for more information.
