Description

Briggs & Stratton is the world’s largest supplier of petrol engines for outdoor power equipment, including lawnmowers, and their engines have been the no. 1 choice for British gardeners for nearly 50 years.

Aggressive research, innovative technology and specialisation has enabled them to maintain leadership in providing high quality and environmentally friendly engines for many different applications.

Hotter Summers Mean Lawns Take The Heat

It’s official; British summers are getting hotter, but that doesn’t mean the end of the traditional green lawn. Lawn care has to adapt to the new drier conditions and petrol engine manufacturer Briggs & Stratton has come up with a guide to keeping lawns in top condition as the temperatures soar.

According to the Environment Agency, six of the ten warmest years on UK record were between 1995 and 2004 (ref: the climate is changing: time to get ready, March 2005), and this trend shows no sign of changing, with warmer than average weather predicted into August and September 2005.

These hotter summers have serious implications for gardeners and on lawns in particular. Associated problems such as water shortages and hosepipe bans can reduce watering, and inappropriate lawn care can produce brown patches.

However, if you follow the Briggs & Stratton guide to summer lawn care, your garden will remain green all summer long.

· Water your lawn – even if there are hosepipe bans, use water from your bath or water butt.
· Don’t cut your lawn too short – raise your lawnmower blades.
· Ensure that the blade on the machine is sharp to prevent any unnecessary damage to the lawn.
· Use a good quality lawnmower. Those powered by Briggs & Stratton engines are reliable, easy-to-use and provide an excellent finish.
· Take care of damaged areas by adding suitable lawn fertilisers and lots of water.
· Service your machine regularly using a Briggs & Stratton Maintenance Kit. This will keep your lawnmower running smoothly as well as reduce fuel consumption and decrease harmful exhaust emissions polluting the atmosphere.

And remember if you are going on holiday, treat your lawn to an extra good watering before you go away to help it retain moisture.
