Description
BROWN’S SUNFLOWER SALES
HELP WORK OF DIABETES UK
Diabetes UK, the leading charity working for people with diabetes, is set to benefit from sales of sunflower seeds sold through the 2006 D T Brown Gardeners Catalogue. The seedsmen are pledging 25p to the charity for every packet of sunflower seed it sells in the 2005-6 season. And with seven varieties and mixtures on offer in the full colour catalogue, gardeners have plenty of choice.
The variety Giant Russian produces very large heads on very tall plants – everyone’s idea of a traditional sunflower – while at just 12in (30cm) high Pacino can be grown in bedding schemes or patio pots. Between the two are blends such as Cutting Varieties Mixed, and many new varieties which are superb as cut flowers, and Stella, a 48in (120cm) beauty which dates back to the 1800s. Seed of sunflower can be sown direct in the flowering positions from March to May or individually in small pots of seed compost for planting out later.
Diabetes UK funds research, campaigns and helps people live with the condition. Its mission is to improve the lives of people with diabetes and to work towards a future without diabetes. For more information about diabetes and Diabetes UK, telephone 020 7424 1010, or log on to www.diabetes.org.uk
