In 2006, Claire Austin moved her Hardy Plants Nursery from Shifnal to Edgebolton, a village a few miles further north near Shawbury in Shropshire.

The new site is spread over five acres and is an ongoing project for Claire Austin, as she steadily converts it from a rather neglected site to a thriving nursery, garden centre and mail-order service with a new and developing visitors’ garden. The National Collections of Bearded Irises and Herbaceous Paeonies have also been moved to the Edgebolton nursery.

Claire Austin’s Hardy Plants Nursery will be welcoming the gardening public for a series of six Open Days in the peak flowering season for irises:

Saturday 31 May
Sunday 1 June
Monday 2nd June

Friday 6th June
Saturday 7th June
Sunday 8th June
Claire will be giving guided tours around the Bearded Iris collection at 11am and 2pm on each of the Open Days.
She will explain the characteristics of this broad group, highlighting star performers and advising on the care of these most beautiful summer flowers.
Claire is a leading authority on herbaceous perennials, and has written extensively on irises and peonies during her 25 year career as a nurserywoman. The National Collection of Bearded Iris held at her Shropshire nursery boasts over 500 different varieties.
The fee for the guided tour with Claire Austin is £5 per person including refreshments, with limited places available.
Every visitor on the Open Days will receive a 5% discount on iris orders placed on the day and a limited selection of potted irises will be available for purchase.
To book a place on a Claire Austin Hardy Plants Open Day or for further information, please call Claire Austin Hardy Plants on 01939 251173 or email [email protected]
Visitors to the Open Days should please make sure they are wearing sturdy footwear, as the ground in the iris fields and on this working nursery may be uneven.
