Description

Eastbury Manor House

Elizabethan merchant’s house and gardens

An important example of a medium-sized brick-built Elizabethan manor house, the building is architecturally distinguished and well preserved, with notable early 17th-century wall paintings. Daniel Defoe described the manor in A Tour Through the Whole Island of Great Britain as ‘where tradition says the Gunpowder Treason Plot was first contrived’. ‘Bee boles’ can be seen in the walled garden. The property is managed by the London Borough of Barking and Dagenham
