Floral Marquees RHS Hampton Court Flower Show

Four Floral Marquees will be filled with almost 100 of the UK’s best exhibiting world-class floral displays. Unlike the RHS Chelsea Flower Show, visitors to the Hampton Court Palace Flower Show can buy plants, new varieties and old favourites, throughout the week direct from the exhibitors.

Desert to Jungle are making their Hampton Court Palace Flower Show debut this summer. The nursery’s first appearance at an RHS show was at the RHS London Flower show in September 2006 where they won an RHS Gold Medal and ‘Best New Exhibitor’ award. Neighbours Rob Gudge and Dave Root started the business in 2004 but have years of horticultural experience behind them. Dave has been involved in horticulture for 21 years, running nursery Kelways for 13 years. Keen exotic gardener Rob became a nurseryman after giving up his career as a milkman. The nursery is planning to launch some new plants at the show including some new varieties of Colocasia esculenta and Alocasia, giant tropical vegetables with huge leaves; various varieties of Ricinus the Castor Oil plant, in particular ‘New Zealand Black’ with deep metallic leaves; and Solanum atropurpureum a tomato plant covered in long purple spines. They also hope to launch a new blue bamboo. Dave and Rob are anticipating a tense journey to the show whilst they transport their largest tropical plants with huge water-filled leaves around 2ft x 3ft large!

Farmland Nurseries made their debut at an RHS flower show last year at the RHS Spring Flower Show, Cardiff where they won the ‘Best Plant Plot’ award. Richard Bramley who runs the nursery, was encouraged into gardening by his mother and grandmother when he was a boy which resulted in him selling plants outside their farm when he was 11. He now runs the 3 ½ acre nursery from the family farm. Richard understands that growing plants in the very cold, windy winters of west Wales takes dedication, and small miracles!
