Helmsley Walled Garden
Description
Helmsley Walled Garden
Step inside the magical hidden garden and discover surprises around every corner. Set against the majestic Helmsley Castle, which provides a breathtaking backdrop at any time of the year, the towering walls surround five acres of beautiful gardens which house many unusual varieties of flowers, vegetables and herbs.
Using the centrally located fountain pond as a marking point stroll through the newly restored Victorian glasshouses, find our rose and white flower collections, see the borders lovingly maintained by local school children, picnic on the lawn, let your imagination run wild in our secret garden or just feel free to ask any of our garden staff for information on the many plants you will see around you.
We hold 54 varieties of Heritage Yorkshire apples (with plans for increasing their display), have beautiful displays of Orchids in the early months of the year, 34 Victorian indoor vines, modern vines and play willing host to the British Clematis Society’s National Display.
Vinehouse, cafe (April to October) with specialist vegetarian dishes, outdoor childrens games area, craft workshops and unusual plant nursery complete the perfect day out.
Along with our gardening work we offer a healing environment which offers horticultural therapy (supervised by highly trained and friendly staff) and tranquil working patterns for those in need along with educational facilities aimed at bringing out the best in people of all age groups.
We are open daily from 1st April through to 31st October.
Dogs are always made welcome and all that we ask is that their owners respect their fellow visitors by keeping their dogs on a lead during their time at the Garden. Our resident cats love to be petted and many visitors are amazed as to how many species of birds make their home amongst the trees and shrubs.
