Island of Mainau on Lake Constance

Close to Konstanz and Meersburg on the eastern arm of Lake Constance lies the island of Mainau which is internationally renowned for its unique floral displays.

One highlight of the Mainau experience is a visit of Germany’s biggest butterfly house, where you can marvel at more than 25 kinds of colourful, tropical butterflies in a free environment and surroundings of exotic landscape and exceptional vegetations.

During the warm season a lot of tropical plants line the way to the arena of fountains, the palm house and the islands historic castle.

Further focal points on the island are its scenic arboretum, a large rose garden, a fantastic looking flower staircase, a gardener’s tower, a redwood alley and an educational wine trail making this a popular choice for an excursion, both for the keen horticulturalists and the casual day-tripper.
