Description

This was my first show garden. The design was based around the premise that opposites attract. The black and the white scheme depicted in this garden represents man and woman – perhaps the owners of the garden.

Within the distinctly angular design, certain elements within the garden represent areas of the relationship between the couple. On the left hand side of the terrace, separate beds of black and white planting portray the couple when they were single.

The terrace itself represents that first ‘physical union’. Love blossoms, and area comprising of white flowers at the back of the garden leads to the ‘magically’ rotating ‘wedding ring’ water feature, with marriage being the coming together of black and white plants.

Man-made materials provide the backbone to the garden and are softened with modern cottage garden plants and some less than cottage plants, providing an area in which to spend time to reflect on our own relationships and those within our society.
