Description

The Children’s Society is to make its debut at the Royal Horticultural Society (RHS) Chelsea Flower Show on 22 May with a specially designed garden sponsored by Ecclesiastical Insurance entitled ‘Lust for Life’.

The Children’s Society Lust for Life garden was selected from a myriad of competing designs vying for space at the world’s most prestigious horticultural event of the year.

The innovative and invigorating design, utilises the space to represent children’s dreams through vibrantly coloured planting and ‘thought bubbles’ representing the dreams of children and their manifestation into reality. An arc of water, representing the power and triumph of the human spirit, traverses the garden in rhythmic bursts to the beat of the Iggy Pop song – ‘Lust For Life’.

Designer Angus Thompson, a newcomer to the RHS Chelsea Flower Show, designed the urban garden to reflect children’s zest and energy for life and the innate potential of childhood. Chelsea gold medal-winning garden constructors, Landform Consultants, will work with Angus to build the garden and bring it to life.

Richard Johnson at The Children’s Society, said: "With an award winning pedigree team, The Children’s Society is looking to make a dream debut at Chelsea 2007. Thanks to our sponsors Ecclesiastical Insurance, this vibrantly designed urban garden is sure to catch the eye of all Chelsea visitors. The added bonus is the recycling and re-use of the different elements of our garden in The Children’s Society projects. The Chelsea Flower Show is the perfect platform to highlight The Childrens Society ethos of giving every child a chance, with the garden celebrating children’s dreams, hopes and aspirations."

Iggy Pop comments: "Lust for Life is full of optimism as young people should be…but too many aren’t. I’m honoured that The Children’s Society’s garden is inspired by my music and wholeheartedly support the work that they do – they rock!"

The RHS Chelsea Flower Show runs from 22 – 26 May 2007.
