Description

Public space sponsored by the Rotary Club of Didcot

A reference to the railway past of Didcot provided the theme for this site adjoining a roundabout in Didcot in Oxfordshire. Reclaimed railway sleepers on edge at different heights provide support for dog roses, and a mixture of wild flowers such as mulleins and teasels which will self seed around hint at the random planting found on railway embankments. A low maintenance planting of Yucca, Achillea, Euphorbia, Kniphofia, Cephalaria and grasses including Sesleria, Molinia and pheasant tail grass will provide a long season of interest with the vertical stems of Rubus and Cornus supplying winter colour. To complete the theme, railway ballast was used as a mulch.
