Description

Cape Town. 2 August 2006. The South African Airways (SAA) Cape Town Flower Show is set to delight fans of the outdoors with its very first international show garden.

“SAA is giving local horticulturists and enthusiasts the opportunity to benchmark on the creations of international exhibits as well as show the world what South Africa is capable of,” says Jacqui O’Sullivan, SAA Head Corporate Communications and CSI.

Visitors to the show will have the opportunity to view a show garden by world-renowned garden designer, David Stevens.

“Horticulture is a great leveler and one of the friendliest activities in the world,” says Stevens.

“It quite literally brings together people of all nationalities and persuasions. I have been coming to South Africa for ten years now and over that time I have seen a wonderful flowering of the garden and landscape markets.”

He added, “For my part it is a genuine honour to be asked to design a garden at the South African Airways Cape Town Flower Show, and a project that I have not taken on lightly,” says Stevens.

What makes Stevens’ involvement in the flower show even more special, is the fact that he will be using local resources and skills to create his garden setting with the assistance of Cape Town based landscaper, Nicholas Whitehorn.

This is SAA’s third year of involvement in the flower show, which takes place in the show gardens at Lourensford Estate in Somerset West from Thursday, 26th October until Sunday, 29th October 2006.

The fact that the exhibition now includes international talent is an indication of its growing status and recognition in the industry.

“In the future we hope that the SAA Cape Town Flower Show will be recognised as Africa’s premier floral exhibition,” says O’Sullivan.

To make the show more accessible, SAA will be offering packages for all wanting to attend. These will include travel, car hire, accommodation and complimentary ticket entrance to the show.

Bookings can be made through SAA Traveler on (011) 978 1144 or log on to the SAA website www.flysaa.com
