Waterperry House and Gardens
Art in Action is held in the beautiful grounds of Waterperry House and Gardens in Oxfordshire, and are some of the finest gardens in Oxfordshire.
As well as a garden centre, Waterperry Gardens also offers visitors the chance to savour a bygone age in the Country Life Museum and Saxon Church. In addition, the Gallery offers hundreds of beautiful and affordable gift ideas and the teashop, "Miss H’s" serves a variety of fresh home-baked lunches or teas.
Waterperry House is a year-round educational centre hosting residential studies in Philosophy, Economics and the Arts. It is owned by the Fellowship of the School of Economic Science, an educational charity which organises Art in Action. Most of the volunteers who staff Art in Action attend Philosophy courses at one of the School’s many centres in the UK, Europe, USA, Canada, Australia or New Zealand.
The House is a hybrid of architectural styles. The elegant Queen Anne facade was rebuilt by Sir John Curson in 1713.The village of Waterperry is recorded in the Doomsday Book to 1086. What is Art in Action?
Inspired by the simple principle that people are fascinated when artists and craftsmen openly demonstrate their skills and discuss their work, Art in Action was born ?
Approximately 25,000 visitors come over four days to learn, buy and enjoy, exhibitions, classes and performances of 400 demonstrating artists, teachers, musicians and performers.
