Established in the 20th century, this hillside arboretum now contains over 1,000 different shrubs and trees, many of them rare. The most impressive displays are in spring with magnolias, bluebells and azaleas, and in autumn for stunning colours. In the summer it is an ideal place for family visits and a picnic

Description of image – View from the top of the Azalea Steps at Winkworth Arboretum. This area was created by Dr. Fox during the war and is planted with massed evergreen azaleas with a background of maples.
